CELI
An official exam recognised by the Italian Government and by the Council of Europe, which certifies the command of Italian at 5 levels:
- Level 1: The exam taken to obtain the CELI 1 evaluates knowledge of Italian at a basic level sufficient for survival in Italian-speaking society. It is based on learning targets indicated at the Waystage level (or “Survival” Level) of the Council of Europe.
- Level 2: The exam taken to obtain the CELI 2 evaluates knowledge of Italian corresponding to the "Threshold" level of the Council of Europe. The candidate must demonstrate a level of knowledge of the language which allows him/her to interact in various situations, such as that of a tourist or when beginning to socialise.
- Level 3: The exam to obtain the CELI 3 evaluates the intermediate knowledge of Italian. The candidate must demonstrate that he/she can take an active part in communicating on a social level.
- Level 4: The exam taken to obtain the CELI 4 evaluates advanced knowledge of Italian. The candidate must demonstrate his/her ability to take an active part in an Italian-speaking environment for purposes of work or study.
- Level 5: The exam taken to obtain the CELI 5 evaluates advanced knowledge of Italian.
