The certificates awarded by the E.O.I. (the Official School of Languages) are the only ones not of a university nature which are officially valid as far as modern languages are concerned throughout the whole of Spain. Under the old plan, students who passed the exams pertaining to the Elementary Cycle could request the corresponding academic certificate. Likewise, students who passed the exams pertaining to the Higher Cycle could request the Aptitude Certificate of the first language teaching level. In the course of the implementation of the new plan, new certificates will be awarded corresponding to the following levels: Basic (level A2), intermediate (level B1) and advanced (level B2).
