Founded in 1776 by a Spanish friar, San Francisco expanded thanks to the Gold Rush and now has a population of over 800,000 and is one of the most important tourist spots in the United States.
San Francisco is known for its Golden Gate, Alcatraz Island, Twin Peaks or the “trams” that run up and down the steep city streets. The city’s unique character stems from its cultural mix.
In San Francisco you can see some of the most exceptional districts such as Chinatown, Japantown San Francisco, Mission District (with a Hispanic population), Financial District (the financial heart of the city), Castro District (for the wealthy), or Haight-Ashbury (the birthplace of the hippie movement); in San Francisco everyone finds a place to suit them.
